The EQ Schools Story
EQ Schools started out as a side project of our founder, Roni Habib after he experienced an event that changed his life and his work as an educator. Roni taught for 15 years and in his 5th year of teaching, he got to school one day, parked his car, and walked towards his classroom. Before getting to his classroom, the intercom went off, announcing that there is an emergency staff meeting that all staff must attend right away.
In that meeting, the principal announced that a student decided to take his own life earlier this morning by getting hit by a train. When she said the name, it was Roni’s student and that shook him to his core. As the news came out, he spent the day supporting students, and a couple of days later, the boy’s mother reached out to Roni and asked him to speak at the funeral of her son. When Roni finished his speech at the funeral he felt a surge of energy that led him to decide that if he was going to continue to be an educator nothing was going to stop him from putting his students’ wellbeing first.
No matter what he taught, he was going to first teach his students to be well. But he wasn’t well as he was still shaken up by the tragedy and was burning out. So he decided to get support and to apply Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and Emotional Intelligence skills into his life and in a matter of a few months, his life transformed significantly. He had more energy, was more connected to his purpose, was more creative, and was excited to go to work.
That’s when he decided to create the first Positive Psychology course for High School students in California. He was hoping 25 students would sign up because it’s an elective and would need that many students to sign up in order to run. 107 students signed up in the first year and there were four sections of the class. For four years Roni saw kids improve their resilience, wellbeing, and behaviorally shift right in front of his eyes. He started using the same strategies in his AP Economics and History classes and saw such powerful results that he realized that it was time to share these strategies with other educators.
He launched his first workshop for educators in 2015, and as more workshops sold out, he decided to found EQ Schools in 2016 and has teamed up with other gifted educators to provide conferences and summits to educators and leaders in education. Realizing that in order to get long term, sustained results, the culture of schools and district needs to be supported, Roni and his team have supported thousands of Principal, Superintendents, and other Administrators to infuse a joyful and psychologically safe climate where adults and students could thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
Over the years, the EQ Schools Team continues to transform classrooms and organizations as well as inspire tens of thousands of people to live a more joyful, peaceful, interconnected, resilient, and meaningful life.

About Roni
Roni Habib is a speaker, author, and expert in helping leaders, educators, and parents become happier, more resilient, more connected to their purpose, and more playful. The founder of EQ Schools, he speaks and leads workshops in organizations nationally and abroad. His dynamic keynotes leave audiences laughing, insightful, elevated, and inspired to take action.
Early in his career, Roni struggled with the high stresses and demands of teaching, even losing touch with why he wanted to be a teacher in the first place. It was so painful that he finally discovered the power of integrating improv, mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and positive psychology in his own life as well as at work and felt called to share this new approach with the world.
In the last decade with EQ Schools, Roni has taught and inspired thousands of Teachers, Principals, Superintendents, Administrators, Business Leaders, and Parents.
Prior to earning his Masters of Education and teaching credential at Harvard University, he lived in Israel and Belgium. Most importantly though, Roni has a huge heart and loves helping people.
